Top marks
eble's
classics community received a big boost this term as Mods. candidates
rushed to get their results from Schools. Bob Cowan, a second year classicist
(who also moonlights as the brick's sports editor) produced an astonishing ten
alpha grades, making his achievement the best on record in Keble since 1963.
(Does any one remember who that victorious candidate was? ED.) Bob has been
awarded the Owen Travelling Scholarship for 1995 as well as the First De
Paravicini Prize.
Hard Pounding
ancashire's
Jason Gallian ('92) was picked to play for England in the
ill-fated third test against the West Indies at Edgbaston.
Summoned to bat on what Mike Brearly described as the worst test pitch he had
ever seen, with an uneven bounce which made the West Indies fast bowlers
virtually unplayable, Jason managed 7 in his first innings before breaking a
finger. Despite the injury he opted to bat in the second innings, but was out
second ball.
